About this Event
Join us to learn about the opportunities and challenges of producing food in the city with a tour of Johnnie Mae Farm.

We will demonstrate how we adapt growing practices to prevent heavy metal exposure and provide produce through a longer growing season. You can also see how an old firehouse was transformed into a commercial-grade kitchen and educational space. The tour will be both indoors and outdoors, with some walking on short grass. We will still do the tour if it rains.

For more information, call (260)481-6826 or email James Wolff at jmwolff@purdue.edu.

About Johnnie Mae Farm
Johnnie Mae Farm was designed to be a community gathering place where neighbors can meet, get to know each other and learn. It is also a farm where fresh, organically grown produce, that’s culturally relevant and delicious, is available for purchase at the weekly farm market. With its commercial quality kitchen and sprawling farm grounds Johnnie Mae Farm is a perfect place for educational and fun events too. The farm is located in the heart of the Renaissance Pointe neighborhood and the farm market is open to all on Fridays from 2-6pm.

Johnnie Mae Farm is operated in partnership between the City of Fort Wayne and Purdue Extension - Allen County to help provide both fresh produce and education on nutrition and gardening. The farm is named after long-time neighborhood advocate Johnnie Mae White. A woman of great courage, strong faith, and a belief in helping others. Johnnie Mae was a true servant leader who dedicated herself to the service of others and enriching their lives as she supported the needs of the community.
