Local Organizations
The Local Organizations section of our Local Food Guide lists organizations and small mission-driven businesses located within the 11 counties of Northeast Indiana whose work to support the production and distribution of local food or help to strengthen our region’s local food system.
Examples of community organizations and mission-driven businesses whose work supports our local food system include, but are not limited to: food banks who source food products from local farms, community gardens, organizations using locally sourced foods to improve healthy food access, food waste and composting programs, organizations and institutions that offer education and training related to local food systems, shared-use commercial kitchens, local food aggregation/distribution businesses, etc.

It is a life-changing experience to learn to recognize the plants growing wild in your environment and to understand the ways in which humans have used them throughout history. The goal of Wild Edible Indiana is to teach people about the plants that surround us and to encourage a connection to them by understanding their histories and their edible properties.

Beyond Able, a nonprofit organization based in Fort Wayne, develops innovative programs that provide career training and mentorship for individuals facing job barriers. One of its key initiatives, Beyond Able Kitchen, is a commercial and commissary kitchen designed to support small food entrepreneurs in growing their businesses while also offering hands-on training to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed for success.
Our mission is to help local small batch artisans with sales and distribution while providing marketplaces with a one stop shop for the local goods they want.
Plant Happiness offers educational opportunities to the community though individual classes, courses, and on-site consultations visits to encourage healthy growing of organic foods, soils, and ecosystems. I also offer design services to assist in the planning and implementation of sustainable and regenerative practices in any setting.
Poplar Village Gardens is a three acre permaculture food forest located in the Poplar Village neighborhood of Fort Wayne. We follow organic growing practices to grow a variety of produce to distribute to our neighbors and our neighborhood food bank.

The Merry Lea Sustainable Farm is an educational, demonstration, and experimental farm specializing in perennial agriculture, carbon farming, regenerative agriculture, food literacy, and environmental education.
