"Growing organically in our backyard", puts it simply. We are a family farm growing on a 1/3 of an acre which is two city lots in the town of Silver Lake. We are going on 9 years of farming, having to have moved the farm location once. Our home in Silver Lake has been our main farm for 4 years now.

What used to be grass we had to mow, is now gardens that we can eat & share with our community. Because our soil is heavy clay with a high water table we are constantly working on building up our soil by adding truck loads of compost, fallen leaves from the town, wood chips from trees taken by summer storms & adding cover crops in the fall. We believe that if you have healthy soil, it will produce healthy foods.

On our farm we like to do things the ol' fashioned way, from our 1948 Chevy truck we take to farmers market and the 1968 Bolens tractor we use on the farm, to the seeds we save including several rare heirloom peppers & tomatoes. We try not to spray our plants. It's expensive & time consuming. We first use beneficial insects. If it comes down to loosing the crop or spraying we will spray only using suggested OMRI (organic sprays). With 3 high tunnels & a greenhouse we are able to offer fresh produce year round.

Additional Information

  • We operate a 100 taps maple syrup operation. Between late January to Early March we tap trees in Nick's parents woods just south of Pierceton, IN. We cook all the maple syrup down ourselves out in the woods over an open fire. The sap cooks for over 12 hours giving the sugars time to caramelize and giving our maple syrup a slight smoky, caramel flavor.

  • We offer garden plants in the spring. These are the same varieties we grow ourselves on the farm including rare heirlooms: Larry's Large Red Cherry (originally grown by Brittany's Grandpa Larry) and New Mexico Green Chiles (grown all across Colorado & the Southwest). The seeds originate from Roswell, NM and our farm is the only farm in Indiana to grow this variety. The slicing Tomato varieties we raise include: Black from Tula, Cherokee Purple, Aunt Ruby's German Green and our sweet peppers are: Marconi Italian Heirloom.
